St. Anthony of Padua. BY TRALEE LADY. This is the first of a new series of Franciscan lives to be issued with Fr. Senan, O.M.Cap., as editor. The name, alone, of Miss Alice Curtayne ensures the perfection of the work. Here we find no more epitome of the dry facts of the life of St. Anthony but a living picture of this great Saint and his work. The sanctity of this eminent son of St. Francis, and his fame as a preacher and miracle worker rank him as one of the greatest figures of the mediaveal world, and St. Anthony as such, is portrayed to us in the highly interesting work. We are brought face to face with the fearless upholder of the rights of holy church, the scourge of her enemies, whether inside or outside the fold, and intermingled with this, we find the poor to humble servant of God ever ready to take his place among the meek and lowly; the lover of the poor and the uplifter of the oppressed. Miss Curtayne has placed in the hands of the lovers of St. Anthony an account of his life which will increase their love and veneration for the Saint a hundredfold, and by so doing she has earned the deep gratitude of the admirers of the illustrous sons of St. Francis not only in Ireland but the world over. We recommend this work to all and welcome its appearance. It will serve as a further bond between the Irish people and the great Order which did so much to keep the faith alive in our midst in "the dark and evil days" of our history.
