VIGOROUS SERMON BY FATHER KAVANAGH Points Out At St. Patrick's Mission Necessity Of Keep- ing Divine Law NON-CATHOLICS THERE A sermon of remarkable force and of appealing interest to the large congregation that attended the mission services at St. Patrick's church last evening was preached by Very Rev. Fr. Kavanagh, O. M. Cap. Basing his discourse on the text, "If thou will enter into life keep the commandments," Father Kavanagh demonstrated the indispensable necessity for salvation of strict conformity to the divine law. He pointed out in a vigorous manner the greatest evil of the present day, namely, men fashioning their lives on principles enunciated by worldly wisdom or dictated by temporal interests. "The great difference between the life of a Christian and one uninfluenced by faith," said Father Kavanagh, "lies in this phase of life. We Catholics base our outlook on the teachings and commands of God; the irreligious base their outlook upon the dictates of the world and are guided solely by material interests." In a peroration of fervid eloquence, Father Kavanagh appealed to the congregation to remember life's aftermath, distinctly pointed out by Jesus Christ, namely, that those who refuse to guide their lives on Christian principles and neglect the observance of God's law shall never enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
