Sunday, August 21st 1927. The Sacred Heart Parish, situated in North East Lincoln was established by the Right Reverend Chas. J. O'Reilly D. D. comprised the territory east of Twentieth Street and North of "Q" Street, and was entrusted to the Capuchin Fathers of the Irish Province on June, 1919. The first site was purchased by the Rev. Luke Sheehan O. M. Cap., and comprised seven (7) lots lying between North Twenty-fifth and North Twenty-sixth Street at a cost of $ 14,000.00 The first parochial residence was on the corner of Twenty-fifth and "Y" Streets, where Mass was said for a time. Nearby the temporary Church or parish hall, as it was called, was built at a cost of $ 8035.42. In our records we find that J. M. Nachtigall was architect and the building was commenced Oct. 15, 1919. The first Mass was said in the new building. During the years from 1919 to 1926 the following priests ministered in this parish: Fr. Casimer Butler, first Pastor. Fr. Walsh, Pastor, Fr. Glenny, Assistant, Fr. Cleary, Assistant. Fr. Adrian Sharkey, Pastor, Fr. Benignus Brennan, Assistant. Fr. Raphael Quinn, Pastor, Fr. Benignus Brennan, Assistant. Fr. Damien Ginnell Assistant, Fr. Isidore Kennedy, temporary assistant, Brother Rufino of Boston. In September 1926 a new property was bought consisting of two houses on "S" Street, east of Thirty-first, one for the Fathers and one a Convent for the Sisters, at a cost of $ 11,500.00 with additional lots on 31st and "T" Street for the new School building to cost $ 45,000.00. The corner stone in which this writing is to be found is laid August 21st, 1927, at 4 P. M. The building Committee under whose auspices this building is erected consists of the following: Rev. R. At the monthly meeting held on Monday, June 8, 1927, at the Sacred Heart Parish house, the proposal to procure a loan toward the building of the new Sacred Heart Church and School was approved unanimously.
