Franciscan Capuchin Missions Mendocino County California U.S.A. The Missions entrusted to the Franciscan Capuchin Fathers comprise the whole territory of Mendocino Co., Which is 3460 square miles. There are 7 Churches, situated in small towns, viz: Ukiah, Willits, Hopland, Fort Bragg, Mendocino, Greenwood, Point arena. Ukiah with a population of about 2500 is the County Seat, and Headquarters for the Missions. Ukiah including Willits and Hopland, covers a territory of at least 1500 square moles. It has 4 Indian Chapels, where Mass is said once a month on a week day. Hopland Indian Chapel is 19 miles south of Ukiah, and about 3 miles south east of Hopland. At Yokaia Rancheria, 7 miles south of Ukiah, is another Indian Chapel, which we call St. Patricks. Another Indian Chapel, which we call St. Josephs, is about \frac{3}{2} miles S.E. of Ukiah. A fourth Indian Chapel is at Pinoliville, 3 miles north of Ukiah. Ukiah also attends to a State Hospital, or Insane Asylum, 3 miles S.E. of Ukiah the town, where Mass is said once a month on a week day. There are also frequent sick calls there. The Sate gives no remuneration, but pays for the transportation of the Priest. In Ukiah there is a Boy's Orphanage, with usually about 150 or more boys, under the care of the Dominican Sisters of the Third Order. Ukiah has also the County Poor Farm, or Poor House, and County Hospital; where the destitute and sick poor are sent to end their days. Fort Bragg. This Mission covers a district of from 1000 to 1200 square miles. Stations where Mass is said occasionally: Branscomb about 35 miles away; Rockport 30 moles; and Westport 18 miles. Mendocino. Attached to this Mission are Caspard small Lumber town 6 miles north, where Mass is said one Sunday in the Month; and Albion 8 miles south. Greenwood. Attached to this Mission is Point Arena, 18 miles south, where Mass is said one Sunday in the month. Stations where Mass is said occasionally: Bridgeport, Boonville, Philo, Signal, Wendling, Signal Ridge. Fr Lawrence told me there were about 1500 Stations at Fort Bragg but no of no account.
