St Patrick's, Kiltegan Co Wicklow. March 19th, 1936 2023-01-25/481 Miss Marie Martin, during the last three or four years, collected a group of girls around her, secured to take over the very best spiritual training, and is having them also trained to take over medical work in the pagan mission. Any group of such girls sent out by her to the Vicariate of Calabar will be very welcome, especially for the following reasons: - Each year, thousands of Christian mothers die for want of proper attention; Thousands of children die; Protestant medical missions are there in large numbers. The following statistics show the state of medical missions in our Vicariate at Calabar: - CATHOLICS PROTESTANTS O A Leper Settlement at Itu complete with doctor.O A General Hospital at Itu.O A maternity Hospital miway between Anua and Cron, with two nurses.O A General Hospital at Etenan (17 miles from Anua).O Maternity Hospital at Cron.O Maternity Hospital at Ikot, Ekpene.O A Leper Asylum at Etenan, and they are almost certain to have the Government Hospital at Ikot, Ekpene, handed over to them.
