PARISHES OF DONERAILE AND SHANBALLYMORE. PARISH PRIESTS 1688--1910. 222 YEARS. 1688—1707 Rev. TIGHE DALY. Registered as follows:— Parish Priest of Doneraile, Cahirdugane, and Templeroan. He received Popish Orders in 1669 at Roane in France from the Archbishop of Roane. Age 68. Residence: Carker. Sureties: Arthur O'Keeffe, Ballymohill. £50; Godfrey Daly, Carker, £50. 1707—1726 Rev. OWEN O'KEEFFE. Born at Glenville, Co. Cork. in the year 1656. Married early, and had a son, whom he educated for the priesthood. but who died in 1709 at Rochelle, in France. Owen O'Keeffe entered Holy Orders in 1707, after his wife's decease, and died P.P. of Doneraile, on the 5th of April, 1726. He is buried in Old Court. His epitaph was written by Denis O'Daly; and also by the Right Rev. Dr. John O'Brien, then a curate, afterwards Bishop of Cloyne. 1726—1732 Rev. JOHN HENNESSY. Removed by the Right Rev. Tighe MacCarthy, Bishop of Cork and Cloyne, in 1732 to the parish of Courcies, near Kinsale, where he died. 1732—1739 No record. 1739—1784 Rev. JOHN COTTER. P.P. of Doneraile for 45 years. Died May 16th, 1784, aged 84 years. Buried in Old Court. 1784—1799 Rev. JAMES COTTER. Nephew of former. Died April 9th, 1799, aged 54 years. Buried in Old Court. 1799—1815 Very Rev. LEWIS WALSH, D.D., V.G. He was Doctor of Divinity of the University of Nantz; Vicar-General to the Right Rev. Dr. Coppinger. He presided over a meeting of the priests of Cloyne at Cove, to protest against the Veto. Built the R. C. Church at Shanballymore. Died January 16th, 1815. Buried in Old Court. 1815—1834 Very Rev. JOHN O'BRIEN, D.D., V.G. Built Presentation Convent, Doneraile, and introduced Presentation Nuns in 1818. Built R. C. Church, Doneraile, in 1827. Gave evidence in Doneraile Conspiracy Case before Special Commission in Cork in October, 1829. Buried in R. C. Church, Doneraile. 1834—1849 Very Rev. PATRICK SHEEHAN, D.D., V.G. Formerly P.P. of Rathcormac for 27 years. Lived at Kilbrack Cottage. Died March 19th, 1849, aged 75 years. Buried in Catholic Church, Doneraile. 1849—1868 Very Rev. PATRICK DUGGAN, D.D., V.G. Formerly P.P. of Castlelyons, where he built R. C. Church. Died March, 1868. Buried in front of Church at Doneraile. 1868—1870 Very Rev. THOMAS WILLIAM CROKE, D.D., V.G. Born at Castlecor, May 19th, 1824. Educated at Charleville Endowed to Irish College, Irish College. Took his degree of D.D. and was ordained in a College at Menin, in Carlow College in 1848; in Irish College, Paris, in 1849. Curate in Cloyne Diocese 1849-1858, when he became First President of St. Colman's. P.P. of Doneraile 1866-1870, when he was consecrated Bishop of Auckland, N.Z. Translated to Archbishopric of Cashel in 1875. Died 1902. Buried in Cathedral, Thurles. 1870—1881 Very Rev. DANIEL DILWORTH, P.P., V.F. Formerly P.P. of Glanworth. Died December 22nd, 1880.
