Scope and content
A financial report from the St. Francis Parochial School committee in Bend, Oregon, recommending halting plans to purchase a new school site due to the heavy tax and debt burden it would place on parish members. Because the committee fell short of its $1,500 quota by collecting only $1,017, they advise transferring the funds to Father Luke Sheehan to reduce existing church debt. However, a handwritten note by Father Luke challenges this decision, stating that he had successfully convinced the parish leadership to proceed with the school project anyway despite the committee’s inability to collect the remaining balance.

Bend, Oregon, Aug. 6, 1925. REPORT OF FINANCIAL COMMITTEE - ST FRANCIS PAROCHIAL SCHOOL Your Committee, after taking into consideration the present financial condition, recommend that no school-site be purchased at the present time, feeling, from knowledge acquired, that the burden of raising an equal amount next year, plus taxes, plus interest, plus street assessments, would be too great for members of the parish. As we see no possibility of obtaining the quota set, $1500.00, we recommend that the amount collected to date, $1017.00, be turned over to Father Sheehan for the purpose of reducing present debt upon church.
