One of the letters (17 Mar. 1921) refers to the case of Alice Cashel imprisoned in Galway Jail. Stockley writes ‘She is in prison for six months. He sister says she loves to hear poetry. She is a distinguished graduate, and teacher, and a fine type. She knows Irish well’. Stockley suggests that Father Rope could send her a copy of his poetry. The file also includes letters to William Frederick Paul Stockley from Patrick O’Byrne, (Corville, Roscrea, County Tipperary), Mary Corkery, Mary MacSwiney (Máire Nic Shuibhne), Richardson Evans (11 Holland Villas Road, Kensington, London), Monica Rafferty, and Dr. Bernard O’Connor (Old Square, Lincoln’s Inn, London) and Conn Mac Murchadha, Director, Sinn Féin Re-organising Committee, 15 College Green, Dublin, re an invitation to attend a public meeting. It is noted that that the ‘object of the meeting is to launch publicly the Republican civilian movement by reorganising Sinn Féin, the only Republican political organisation which is definitely pledged to the support of the Irish Republic’ (11 July 1923). It appears that Fr. Henry Rope later annotated most of the letters with date ascriptions.

SINN FEIN RE-ORGANISING COMMITTEE TELEPHONE 15, COLLEGE GREEN, DUBLIN. 11 July 1923 A. Capa Sil I have been instructed by the Reorganising Committee of Sinn Fem to ask you to come to a public meeting called by the Committee for Tuesday 17th July at 8 p.m. in the transition House Dublin. The Committee are anxious for you to speak and wound urge on you the importance of doing so if at all possible. The object of the meeting is to launch publicly the Republican civilian movement by reorganising Sinn Fem, the only Republican political organisation which is definitely pledged to the support of the Irish Republic. The President approves of our movement. The meeting will be a momentous one, as it will mark our first public appearance since the end of the war, and will in all probability set a headline for all Sinn Fem Rumain throughout the country. The Committee are at work framing the general outlines of policy, and I shall send you information regarding its conclusions at the earliest possible moment. Opinion in the country is rapidly turning against the Free State & could be easily stored into Republican channels. We hope you will make a big effort to help us to get a good start. We hope to meet most common macmicada Director of Organisation P.B. our Counciller will of course, defray your expenses.
