127 Bristol Road Edgbaston. Jan. 5, 1884 Dear Sir, I am very much obliged to you for sending me the small volume by "Humanitas". I had thought to read it before acknowledging the receipt of it, but now I find that I shall not be able to look at it for a few days. Until I have done so, I cannot say whether it seems to merit a reply. But my discussion with Mr. Symes tended to disgust me with all men of that school; giving me the impression that one would not merely have to answer arguments, but face a good deal of brown beating, & bear with a good deal of irreverent mouseuse. But I am none the less obliged to you for sending me the publications & I remain Yours faithfully George S. Clair. Mr. Tr. Pearse.
