Father General considers it would be wise to withdraw the Fathers, who have gone there as soon as you prudently can. He recognises the good faith of the Irish Fathers in thinking that the Satate of Maryland was outside the limits of the Pittsgurgh Province: but since the contrary turns out to be the case, nothing can be done to give canonical status to an Irish convent in that State. If an agreement were possible between the two Provinces he would not stand in the way; but no such arrangement seems at all likely. Father General further relies on your Paternity to see that the charity that should characterise our relations with our religious brethren will be preserved as if nothing had happened. The early withdrawal of our Fathers from Baltimore will, he believes, be in the best interests of charity.
