My dear Father Colman: Please forgive my long delay in acknowledging receipt of your letter approving the my report of the Visitation, with obediences enclosed. Father William left for Ireland Sunday. Fr. Dunstan leaves June 13, Father Finnian June 20th, Father Valarian July 4th. I do not know yet the date of Bro. Patrick's leaving, but I believe it will be very soon. Receiving your directive regarding plans for Flintridge, I discussed the matter with the Consultors and the priests at Flintridge, and with their approval I proposed to the Archbishop the erection of a building costing about $100,000.00. He replied asking for a statement of our finances. This I sent him. I am now awaiting his decision. Over one hundred boys took the entrance examination, and it will be necessary to start with two freshmen classes. In September. Because of this the priests at Flintridge urged me to ask you for two priests for the opening of school. Could you possibly send them. I am grateful for what you are doing. Father Gornelius had an operation for the removal of a stomach tumor. He is well on the road to recovery now. Building programmes are afoot in the Parishes of Roseburg and Ukiah. Financing seems to be progressing favorably. The Dominican Fathers agreed to take over Mc Kenzie Bridge. But they will not develop the place. Moreover they will say Mass only on Sunday during the winter. The result is that Fr. Bede - the donor, has asked me to return to him the fund that he does not consider part of the Foundation money. I wrote Archbishop Howard for his "nihil obstat". But he has not replied to date. The priests in Flintridge want Bro. Conrad, who is at the Bridge now, to come there permanently.
