St. Gertrude's Church 201 FAIR OAKS AVENUE STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA April 23rd. 1923. ===== My dear Fr. Provincial, Your kind letter to hand. I find I have not the address of Bro. Florian so that I am unable to write to him, perhaps you could send me the address if you dont care to write him yourself. As regards Fr. Raymond I send you a letter written to me since I wrote to you and considering it and the fact that he arrived in Roseburg on Friday 13th Imst. and is looking well, I presume he will give better satisfaction and perhaps I may not have to bother you again about him. I think you might fix him definitely in Roseburg where he cant do much his running about and he will have ample scope for preaching powers. I am sending Fr. Clement TO Ukiah where Fr. Ambrose who has been ill is at present. Fr. Raphael has been hard pressed during the Lent as he was alone there since Fr. Urban went to hospital. I am sure the latter is out of hospital by this, but he will be unfit for work for some time, hence my sending of Clement there. I brought Fr. Leo to help us in the Los Angeles missions, he preaches fairly well, yet lacks energy and life. He however is anxious to be called upon again. In future it will be necessary to have a mission staff located in Watts in order to obviate the trouble I had to encounter from bringing men from the other houses where the men are all required. I had to write to Mon. Jas. Cantwell explaining our difficulties this year which shall be obviated in future. Fr. Clement and I are engaged here in Stockton these two weeks and he goes to Ukiah from here. I have a Retreat to give the Queensdaughters a high class Social society in Los Angeles. I may be able to make an impression on some of them to help towards the building of our school at Watts. This year I may be able to start it this year. No further developments about Santa Inez, When the young men come out I hope to put things in a better state, I have nothing of further interest for you, but I shall keep you well posted in our work as we go along. I have not seen the Archbishop since I visited San Francisco, I hope to see him soon and I may be able to get some information regarding the San Francisco Foundation. We are all well and working hard to build up our missionshere. Hoping you are keeping strong and with best wishes to all the Fraternity, I am My dear Fr.
