Franciscum Capuchin Friary Box 38 Matta California March 15th 19 26 My dear Father Provincial/ Your second letter arrived today, and although we had everything arranged as you suggested in your first letter, I set to right matters in accordance with the last instructions, as no changes had taken place. I am very glad I got your letter today, as Father Pacificus was to leave for Santa Ynez on Thursday, and now both he and Father Anthony have agreed to to exchange places, which seems very satisfactory to me, and Fathers Adrian and Casimer. These latter had returned, and I got on the phone at once and have fixed up matters with Pa. going to Fortbragg, and Anthony to Mendocino. I had written a very plausible letter to Pa. so that he would not feel his change, yet he was bound to feel it, and this latter arrangement has made him all right. I will write him immediately, and also Anthony. Of course I notified James Cantwell, but I will explain matters to him again at once. I am very glad that Casimer has not to leave Santa Ynez even for a time, as Reg. from what I have heard within the last couple of days, seems not able to pull with the people at the Old Mission. Of course you know he is half simple, and sometimes half crazy, yet a very religious fellow. He seems unwilling to becoming Americanized, or play the game with the American people. As I told you in my last, we considered it best not to make any change at Santa Ynez, as Fr. Casimer would not be away long, as if we had put Pa. in charge, Reg would kick and I would have to explain matters to the Bishop. Changes in the same Diocese are, as you know, always the best. Hence my former suggestion of Anthony going to Mendocino. Everything will go on, I have no doubt, smoothly now, and I went forget this good spirit manifested by Pa. Sorry I am for having to increase your home worries, but we have to be prepared for such, from time to time. Respectfully yours in S.F. Jac
