Provincial/ I received your kind letter some days ago, with the the Definitorial Enactments for the American Houses enclosed. On receipt of same I called to see the Bishop at the Chancery Office, and acquainted him of the appointments for Santa Inez, at which he expressed himself very pleased. He told me to send him in a letter re these appointments, and he would send me a line in reply, to have all matters legal. He also repeated what he told yourself and myself, about his difficulty with Fr Buckler, in case he should turn up to him and demand a parish. I received this morning a reply from the Bishop, just acknowledging my letter and thanking me for the information contained therein. So you see things are in statu quo as you saw when here. Fr. Albert arrived here yesterday, and as Fr Clement leaves next week I think we will keep Albert here for a time, and tell Fr Reginald and Bro Columcille proceed to Fortbregg, until required for Santa Inez. Fr Clement takes his change well, although he feels that I had a hand in it. However, I let him have his idea, on the matter. Fr Albert is looking very poorly, yet he says he feels well. After a few weeks he may be better fitted for the work before him, otherwise we must only do the best we can. On the whole you have been well advised in the changes and appointments you have made. I have'nt had a line from Leo since, so I must run up next week to see for myself as to how matters stand. I could'nt get away this week, as I will be engaged next Sunday. We have no Missions until Advent, so we are J. M. J. F. Franciscan Capuchin Friary Box 38 Watts, California devoting our time to Parish work of consus taking, and Sunday supply. I must thank you and the Definitory for your consideration of me personally re the Voice at the coming Chapter &. Our School attendance has reached over the 220 mark, and our Sisters are feeling well and doing great work. I am endeavouring to get funds to erect a Settlement for the Mexicans in our Parish, at which the Bishop is very pleased. The Catholic Charities may come to the rescue somewhat. The same beautiful weather, we have had since you left, with the exception of one night's good fall of rain, which was most welcome. All your friends at Watts reciprocate your kind greetings, and feel glad at your safe return to the old land once more. All the Fathers are well.
