St. Bonaventure's, Cork, Ireland. Aug. 6th., 1932. My dear Father Alban, I have not replied to your recent letters because of my illness which prevents me from transacting any business for a few months. I did not see the Bishop, but Father Colman had an interview with him. I am unable to say as yet what the Definitors will thank of that interview. I am glad to know that you are working so successfully. But as regards building I would remind you of what I have already written you : it is impossible for us to think of spending money until we have secured a canonical foundation. That foundation has not yet been obtained by us. I do not know who is responsible for that, but Father Sylbert has promised to look trouble to mention on his return to Rome. You need not trouble to mention the matter further. When we have succeeded in obtaining a canonical foundation then we will lend you some money to begin with.
