Franciscan Capuchin Fathers Our Lady of Angels Church Hermiston, Oregon April 22, '55 My dear Father Provincial, The old site of the house here in Hermiston has been sold for taxes by the County and has been bought by the City. If the City can get a "quit-claim deed" to the property the County could be willing to remit the taxes to the City as they acquired it for one of the relief jobs. The Mayor of the City who is a Catholic requested me to write to you to ask you to authorise Father Luke to give such a deed. The property is in the name of the "Franciscan Capuchin Order of the Diocese of Baker City-a Corporation sole." Luke is the Corporation. The property is worthless and would always be worthless. They are making use of it now, to get money into the town from the Federal Government by one of those ABCD schemes. Would you be good enough to let us know your approval as soon as possible as the County Court will give final decision on the tax-remission in about 5 or 6 weeks.
