CHESTER 38 FRANCISCAN FRIARY GROSVENOR STREET CHESTER 14 November 1949 Dear Fr Stanislaus, Thank you for your letter about the foundation rescripts of the Californian houses. I am separated a toro et mensa (bed and breakfast) from my archives at the moment, but I am asking Fr Wulstan to search for me. He is writing the history of the Province at the moment in Oxford, and has been given access to the particular files in which these rescripts should occur. However I must warn you that I very much doubt if he is going to find them; I cannot recollect them myself. My archives are divided chrono- logically, a separate file for every year - the whole to depend on a careful index still to be made. Unfortunately there are many documents conspicuous by their absence. I remember reading a letter from the late Abp Mostyn, in which he thanked the then Provincial for the rescript for Penmaernmawr, which he would have pleasure in filing with his other Roman documents. Perhaps our rescripts will turn up in the diocesan archives of San Francisco. Still hoping to visit you one day! Yours very fraternally Gilbert Sprag
