SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH January 31, 1916. Very Reverend Aloysuis Travers, O.S.F.C., Capuchin Fathers, Church Street, Dublin, Ireland, Very Reverend and dear Father: In the Diocese of Salt Lake there are a great many Italians. The town of Helper, which is the centre of activity for the great coal mines of Carbon County, is practically all Italian. There are some sixty or seventy Italian children of school age. In Carbon County in its different towns - Helper, Castle Gate, Kenilworth, Price, Sunnyside, Green River, Hiawatha, Mohrland, etc., etc., - there are many Italians. Then there are Italians in groups in other places of the Diocese. Now, my dear Father, I have no one to take care of these good people. In fact, I have very few priests. Unless something is done for these Italians they will be lost to the faith. Would your Community consider taking charge of the missions in Carbon County, Utah? If it be possible, I do pray you in the name of the interests of Our Lord, to consider favorably my petition. Two Fathers would be sufficient for sometime.
