THE MONITOR, MARCH 16, 1929 UKIAH, CITY OF HOMES IS VALLEY CENTER PASTOR Outdoor Recreation En- joyed Year Round In the heart of the prosperous Ukiah valley stands a beautiful and modern city. It is Ukiah—a city of homes and the county seat of Mendocino county. Ukiah is an incorporated city of the sixth class. It is a shipping point of considerable prominence, serving as a distributing and trading center for a large productive territory. Ukiah is one of the few cities in the state where outdoor recreation can be enjoyed practically every day in the year. The city has acquired a beautiful tract of land on its western outskirts which has been converted into a municipal park where all sorts of gatherings can be held beneath the giant oaks and towering pines. A part of the grove has been set aside as a municipal camp ground for tourists, and the prases of Ukiah have been sung by thousands of travelers during the brief time it has been in existence. Aside from its picturesque setting in the center of a rich and productive valley, Ukiah has many natural advantages. North and southern extends of the highway, bordered by wealth-producing orchards, alfalfa fields and pretty farm water. An abundance of pure water is furnished from wells near the city, and broad tree-lined streets, well lighted and raveled in the business section, and a climate comfortable in winter and summer are a few of its attractions.
