Collegio Beda Roma 15. 12. 32 2023-06-05/603 Dear Father I think that I told you in my last letter of my interview with the Bishop in London and of my visit to Mandrous. The Rector applied to the Bishop for my dimissorials as soon as I got here and I received the sub-diaconate on December 4th. The Rector suggested that I should receive the diaconate in January and be ordained briest on Holy Saturday but I had a letter from the Bishop the other day in which he spoke of ordaining me when I got back to England in the summer. I am hoping however that he will not insist on this as I would naturally prefer to be ordained in Rome and besides it might mean that I would have to wait till the middle of September when the Bishop tolds an ordination at his seminary and this would mean a delay in my arrival at Glenstol. I am still a little anxious lest the Bishop may object to my entering Glenstol at the end of this year as he reiterates his desire that I should remain in the disease but he seemed to agree to the proposal when I was speaking to him in London and I doubting that he will

allow me to go. I suppose that the boys have gone home by now for the Christmas holidays. I hope that the school is prospering. I have not been up to I Auselms this year as all the men that I knew well there have left but I will try to go to some of the ceremonies at Christmas. We are able to go away for a week after Christmas and I am thinking of going down to Sicily. I am afraid there is a great deal of poverty in Rome this year there were very few beggies in the streets in my first two years here but now they are very numerous. I had a letter the others from a friend of mine called Huggard who has stayed down at glenstal on two or three occasions. He was a student here but left in his third year and he has now joined Quan Abbey in the Isle of Wright. All good wishes for Christmas to you and to all the Fathers at glenstal.
