St. Bonaventure's. COPY. Cork. November 22nd 1926. My dear Father Joseph. I received your letter of Nov. 5th on Friday last, enclosing one from Monsignor Cantwell. My sole object in asking you about putting the Fathers at Willits and Hopland in Ukiah was that I thought that it would be much better to have four or five Fathers together in one house rather than have them live separately within a dozen or so miles of one another. They would have community life and would, I am sure, be happier with their brother priests. But in this matter we must be always ready to comply with the wishes of the Ecclesiastical Superiors of the Diocese. So you could consult with Fathers Casimir and Adrian, and also see the Archbishop. You will explain clearly to the Archbishop why I made the suggestion, (It is only a suggestion,) and if he thinks it would be better for his people to have a resident Pastor in them, then matters can remain as they are. There is no hurry in the matter. You can do all this at your own leisure. Nothing of course will be done until I have your views before me. The two priests in Ukiah have a very hard time, and we have no one for the present to go to their assistance. If the two others were with them matters may not be so difficult. You are the Superior on the spot, and know more about these matters than I do. So if even any suggestion I make may not have your approval, let me know it by all means. There is nothing against either obedience or 2 humility in this. It is only common sense.
