Copy of letter to Fr. Stephen. sent by air-letter form. PROVINCIAL CURIA Capuchin Franciscan Friary Church St., Dublin, Ireland. July 20, 1950 My dear Father Stephen, At a meeting of the Definition held here yesterday it was decided to Rome for an Obedience for Fr. Herbert of Castleblayney to go to the Custody. Kindly send to Fr. Herbert at the Cap, College, Rochestown, the usual letter to enable him to get gis passport vised. His name is Charles Cuthbert Thomas Whitfield, son of William Whitfield and Mary Ellen Callan, born in Castleblayney on November 12, 1922, entered the Order on Oct. 3rd 1941, and was ordained priest on June 16, 1949. I am told that he gives promise of being a very good preacher, and should be very helpful to you in the Custody. I learn from a report received from the Econome General in Rome that our money deposit at the General Curia is low, and, as we have no student in the Internat. Col. at present, it is very difficult for us to send money to replenish it. We find in the account furnished of expenses since the beggining of this year that the following were incurred for the Custody: Rescripts (Los Angeles) -- 9.31 dollars; Maps for the Custody -- 37.53 dollars. Total -- 46 dollars, 84 cents. This being independent of our arrangement regarding the expenses of those going to send Custody, it would help to replenish our deposit in Rome if you send to V. Rev. Fr. Sylvester of Bubuque, Collegio San Lorenzo, Via Sicilia 159, Roma, (who is in charge of our Roman funds) this sum of 46 dollars and 84 cents, and explain clearly to him that it is for the Irish Province deposit, and let us know also when you send it. His Grace, Archbishop Mulligan returned here from Rome last night. He is in fairle good form at present, but the Doctor in Rome did not hold out much hope of his final recovery. We have just got a cable from Fr. Phelim, Bishop-elect, that he is returning to Ireland for his consecration in the course of a few weeks, but no arrangements have been made so far for the ceremony.
