Dear Sir, It was only today that the reference to the late Thomas MacDonagh in last week's issue of the "Irish Catholic" was brought under my notice. I write with extreme reluctance but I feel that I should be wanting in my duty did I omit to make a protest against the obvious and unkind suggestion of the reference in question. With the politics of Thomas MacDonagh I am not concerned; I deeply deplore the sufferings and sorrows of the sad weeks through which we have passed. I write from the standpoint of the Catholic Priest whose services can be commanded by all who need or ask for spiritual aid. "De mortuis nihil nisi bonum" is an old and venerated maxim. But while those who were better acquainted with Mr. MacDonagh in life can speak of the character of his religious professions and conduct, if any vindication is necessary, I feel bound to emphatically assert that his preparation for his last moment manifested a depth of Catholic Faith and a tenderness of piety most edifying and impressive and that he received the rites of his Church with a devotion which will not easily be forgotten by The Priest who assisted him.
