Coal will use a man - oil and elect. no man. 2023-11-08/941 Dear Father Sub-Prior, Re: Church heating As promised, I now enclose my own file in connection with the above which you will please retain for me. To sum up the position is viz. 1. There are two systems of heating the building effectively: (a) + Floor panel heating. £4000 for installation(b) The system of blowing in warm air at a high level. This system has the advantage that it can be used successfully to heat the building for short periods at a time. £2.500 (Ruskellich) In their report of the 11th of May, 1950, the Consultants favour system (b). 2. The various fuels which can be used are: A. Coal with Automatic stokers.B. Fully Automatic oil firing. £1.500C. Electro Thermal storage. £5.500 + £4000 for E.S.B transformer & fab. In their report of the 10th of August, 1950, the Consultants recommend the use of oil firing. In the meantime, we decided after several consultations to use Electro Thermal Storage and asked the consultants for an estimate from the E.S.B. This estimate was delayed considerably but when it did come it was so high that it left no alternative but to forget about the Electro Thermal Storage system. The Consultants' letter of the 19th November gave approximate costs which show that even though oil may be used now it can be readily adapted to solid fuel firing. A flue would have to be provided. Also, it is noted that the equipment for oil burning now provided could be conveniently dismantled and repositioned in Central Boilerhouse. Taking all things into account, I am inclined to favour oil burning with a warm air system of heating and if possible to remove altogether even the possibility of the future provision of panel heating. In their report of the 11th May, 1950, the consultants give the cost of this system as approximately £4500 and if you add to this £1500 for the oil burning installation you get an approximate overall figure of £6000 which I consider should adequately cover the
