Speak of Wrs. Justice Hugh Kunney opening to the 2d day of the Baz ear 29 June, & Father Prior, Your Excellencies, Reverend Fathers, Ladies and Greatlessmen, I was happy to accept the Prior's invitation to come down to Glenetal to-day and to take a part however small in helping the Fathers of Mr. Benedict to establish their beneficent work among us. We are fond of telling of the golden age in the past history of this Country when our monks went forth into Europe to teach, carrying learning and the arts of those days as their gift to many lands. Many centuries have passed during which this land of ours was made desolate and her ancient culture crushed. Now once again we are bifting our eyes to the future with a new hope of recreating the national culture in many sided activity. It is perhaps in accordance with some law of Compensation under Providence that the Continent has sent us the Benedictine Fathers with an offering of great skill in the arts and crafts (for which Belgium is especially famous in the ecclesiastical sphere) and of goodwill to help us as they so well care in the work of educational reconstruction which is going
