GOOD COUNSEL BALLYBODEN RATHFARNHAM DUBLIN 14 TELEPHONE 908943 2023-06-14/677 13th May, '62 Dear Father Abbot, Another letter! This time I shall try to make it a short one. Yesterday afternoon, about three, I was sur- prised to have a phone call from Bro. Eugene to ask I could he come out to see me. I had written to you on Friday, respectfully telling you what I ad- vised in his case, and saying that I would not have time to see him again. It was clear that you had not received that letter before Eugene left Glensted yesterday - Sat - morning. However, it happened that I could spare him a few hours & I told him to come out. I spoke to him at length and his

replies and reactions all confirm the views I gave you in my letter. He says freely that only his him secretarial work keeps in Glenstal. Were he defined of it he would leave without delay and without regret. When I tried to place the spiritual questions involved before him he seemed unable - or unwilling - to understand. Still, he did see the force of my reasons for saying that I think he has a true - though now hidden - vacation to the Benedictine life in Glenstal. I thought it well to tell him what I had proposed to you. Subject, of course, to your approval he accepts the suggestion most willingly. I regret having to bother you so much about the matter; but it seems - at least for Eugenis Sake - to be highly important. As I croate new glasses I shall be here till Friday or Sat. Yours gratefully, & respectfully, Colman & Driscoll, O.S.A.
