About

Catholic History is a project of Boyne Archives, and a sister project of the Catholic Archives Catalogue (https://catholicarchives.ie).

It seeks to make more accessible the documents of Catholic Archives in Ireland. Both researchers and the public will be able to read primary source documents with the context surrounding them.

We have also compiled a comprehensive guide to online resources for researching Irish history, covering national archives, church and religious records, genealogy databases, digitised newspapers and manuscripts, historical maps, and diaspora collections.

This website uses Canopy. Canopy "makes easy" the creation of digital exhibits for libraries, archives, and museums by providing user-experience focused components that bring IIIF resources to life. For digital humanists and scholars, Canopy provides a straightforward method to curate works from multiple sources and provide additional perspectives and aboutness beyond the included descriptive metadata. The decentralized, interoperable, and linked-data attributes of the IIIF APIs empower Canopy to provide smaller institutions with a streamlined front-end platform, neatly sidestepping the monolithic complexities often associated with conventional digital asset management systems.

Features

  • **easy Markdown authoring for scholarly content
  • customizable full-text search index
  • reusable components based on IIIF content
